Chutney played CresFest 2024

Chutney – bringing the KlezFest flavour to CresFest!

Chutney was formed in 2020 and has since become Australia’s leading klezmer fusion band. They play a mix of modern arrangements of traditional klezmer dance tunes, original compositions and even klezmerified versions of pop classics. Chutney are a six piece instrumental outfit (violin, clarinet, keyboard/piano, bass/synth, percussion and drums).

Chutney fuse their Jewish roots with styles ranging from gypsy jazz to tango, folk to rock, classical to funk, east to west. CHUTNEY has played extensively in Sydney, including at the Opera House, Foundry 616, the Roundhouse, LazyBones Lounge, The Vanguard, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Gasoline Pony, Mecca Coffee, six major synagogues and multiple sold-out shows at Camelot Lounge. We made our Sydney Festival debut in 2022, and headlined the Limmud Oz Festival for four consecutive years.  Chutney gave their Melbourne debut in 2021, and have toured regional NSW to sold-out crowds in Newcastle, Bellingen, Valla, South West Rocks, Taree, Winmalee and Lithgow. Chutneymembers have appeared alongside Elton John, Janet Jackson, Jimmy Barnes, Celine Dion, Diana Ross, Zela Margossian, Human Nature, Monsieur Camembert and the Australian Chamber Orchestra.

A hot, spicy blend of flavours, CHUTNEY puts a modern twist on klezmer music. Blending influences from their Eastern European and Middle Eastern heritage, they play a high-energy mix of originals and their own arrangements of traditional melodies – be prepared to dance!
